Saving Throes # 123 - Pages Through the Ages: Making a Character - AD&D 1e
Welcome to the Saving Throes podcast! This is my Tabletop role-playing game podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a topic or theme along with my take on current happenings in the world of tabletop role-playing games and semi regular updates on the games I am currently involved with, or new games or products I have come across.
It's about time I continued this look back at creating characters throughout the various editions of D&D. Last time I made one using the original 0e rules, this time I decided to move up to AD&D 1e (I will circle back to the various Basic editions in a future episode). I had a great time making this 1e character, and using a 3d6 down the line generation method, I ended up with a character I likely would have never made otherwise. As I did with my last episode, I used only resources a player would have had at their disposal at the time of the PHB's original release (June 1978), so that means no internet! I navigated the Gygaxian prose all on my own and had to make a couple interpretations and judgement calls to get it done, and I loved it! Tune in to find out what kind of character I ended up with.
