Pining for Pixels # 97 - Versus Mode: Console Wars, Then and Now
Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!
The topic of the console wars comes up a lot these days given Microsoft's strategic shift to putting their games on basically everything, and the signs are there that Sony is potentially going to move more in that direction over time as well. It got me to thinking, who did the console wars best? I know that console wars have been a thing in several generations, but to me the most iconic ones have been Nintendo vs. Sega in the 90's and Sony Vs. Microsoft in the 2000's up until present day. I thought it would be fun to determine who did it best, as both wars definitely had passionate fans bearing the standard for their platform of choice, but the battlefields look very different from one another. Tune in to hear how history repeats itself and what lessons we can learn.
