Pining for Pixels # 95 - Video Game Book Club: Klonoa: Door to Phantomile

Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!

I was pretty excited to do this episode and finally play the first Klonoa game after all the wonderful things I had heard about it. After playing it now, I can say in some ways it was worthy of the hype, but in other ways it kinda fell short. That said, it was certainly a nice brisk experience, and one that I think suited the book club series of episodes well! This series has a pretty dedicated base of fans, and a lot of it is driven by the nostalgia of playing this one when younger. I can completely see why this would leave such a lasting impression on someone, and even for me today, having experienced the game without having it spoiled, it still left an impression despite my lack of nostalgia for it. Tune in to hear about why I have conflicting impressions of the game, and see if it is something you would be interested in. Be warned, towards the end I go full spoiler on the narrative of this game (but I do provide plenty of warning when this is about to happen).
