Pining for Pixels # 52 - Video Game Book Club: Rise of the Tomb Raider
Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!
As promised, it is the next instalment of my video game book club series, this time all about Rise of the Tomb Raider. This game had been on my to-play list since it was released as an Xbox One exclusive back in the day. I finally got around to completing this one, and I dare say my thoughts on it today are likely much different than they may have been back when it first came out. That isn't to say that I didn't enjoy my time with it, but it certainly let me appreciate what I value most in a video game and helps to illustrate what the strengths of video games as a medium are. This game was a product of its time and clearly inspired by its peers. I will say that I was also shocked at how well this game stood up from a visual perspective - it looks great, which is either a statement on how well the visuals were designed at the time or how much less of a leap the current day generation is from last gen in terms of visuals. Tune in to hear my detailed thoughts as well as what others have had to say.
