Welcome to the Pining For Pixels podcast! This is my video game variety show podcast, part of the Red Rooster's Gaming Coop network where I talk gaming and gaming culture every week. Each episode will feature a subject or theme that interests me, and I will speak about what is on my mind in the world of video games!
Lately we have had some news about the rising cost of development in the AA gaming space. Too much bad news about layoffs. Lengthy development cycles plagued by delays. On top of all this, platform holders like Sony and especially recently Microsoft are releasing their titles on other platforms altogether and are talking about how they can approach releases like that in the future. I believe we are on the cusp of some major changes coming to the industry as we know it today. This week I wanted to talk about the future of this industry. I believe it will look very different than it does today, and I think we are now starting to see hints of what might be to come. A time will soon come where we look at the days of "console wars" as being a thing of the past, a relic of the earlier days of a fledgling industry. Tune in to hear my thoughts and predictions as to what we might see in the video game world over the next couple of decades!
